TOPEKA — A two-vehicle crash injured a driver near Topeka Monday morning.

LaGrange County police said the mishap occurred at 4:53 a.m. on C.R. 800 South west of C.R. 400 West. Sergio Lopez-Cortez, 35, Ligonier, was driving east in a 2002 Dodge Caravan. He told police the vehicle struck a snowbank, causing him to lose control of the automobile.

The Dodge went left of center and collided with a 2010 Chevrolet driven by Stacy Gavin, 51, Kendallville. Lopez-Cortez’s vehicle then went off the road and flipped.

Police said Gavin suffered neck and shoulder pain as a result of the crash. She was transported to Parkview Noble Hospital for treatment.

Lopez-Cortez was cited for driving too fast for road conditions, and also for driving without insurance and without a valid driver’s license, police reported.
