Three dead in Friday wreck


— LaGrange County police have confirmed three are dead after a two-vehicle crash Friday at U.S. 20, west of C.R. 1200 West in LaGrange County. The collision occurred at 2:30 p.m. According to police, a 1998 Dodge 4D was eastbound on U.S. 20, west of C.R. 1200 and appeared to go left of center to pass a vehicle and nearly struck head on a 2005 Dodge 3500 traveling westbound, east of C.R. 1200 West. According to a release from police, all occupants in the 1998 Dodge died at the scene. The semi driver, Andre Nutbrown, 43, Quebec, Canada, was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for torso pain. As of Friday night, he was in serious but stable condition. Indiana State Highway assisted with road closure and U.S. 20 was closed for 3 1/2 hours.

Goshen boy arrested after shots fired

A 16-year-old Goshen boy was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly firing a gun along Crescent Street Thursday night.

Around 7:30 p.m. Goshen police were called to a report of possible gunshots fired and a fight in the rear parking lot at 212 Crescent St. Police said the suspect is believed to have stolen a firearm from a relative and fired a round into the air as a threat toward a 15-year-old boy.

Police said that according to the victim and witnesses, the armed teen then pointed the weapon at the 15-year-old. The two exchanged words and then separated prior to police arrival.

The 16-year-old was arrested on charges of criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm, dangerous possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a permit and receiving stolen property. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Police said Elkhart County prosecutors are expected to file formal charges against the teen Tuesday.

One hurt in wreck

A driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at U.S. 20, north of C.R. 17 in Elkhart Thursday. The crash occurred at 2:45 p.m. Elkhart County police said a 1994 Toyota Corolla driven by Arlea Lopez, 29, Elkhart, rear ended the 1998 Buick Century driven by Donna Cooper, 68, Elkhart. Lopez left the scene and was located by police at C.R. 18, west of Old C.R. 17. She was treated at the scene for compliant of pain to the face, then cited and released for leaving the scene and never receiving  a valid license.

Theft/burglary reports

• Chelsea Rodriguez, 1305 S. Fourteenth St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole a prescription drug, hydrocodone-acetaminophen, at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday.

• Miriam Duran, 1018 Beaver Lane, Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole her debit card and jewelry around 5 a.m. Thursday.

• Wayne Carter, 311 E. Madison St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole his Oakley sunglasses from inside his vehicle around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

• Edward M. Batts, 1013 S. Ninth St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole his mo–ped that was locked and secured with a cable around 7 p.m. Thursday.

• Lisa Fingerle, 57481 Emerald Chase Lane, Goshen, told Elkhart County police someone stole her new Stealth box trailer full of household goods from her driveway between midnight and 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Becky Greenawalt, 437 N. First St., Goshen, told Goshen police the grave of Steven Greenawalt located in Oakridge Cemetery was vandalized sometime Thursday.

• Taneshia R. Ritter, 24792 C.R. 22, Elkhart, told Elkhart County police someone keyed and vandalized her 2003 Chevy Impala parked in her driveway between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Drug/alcohol arrests

• Pamela K. Crist, 44, 333 Pleasant Plain Ave., Elkhart, was arrested by Elkhart County police on charges of public intoxication, resisting law enforcement and battery in the 59000 block of  Ind. 15 in Goshen at 1:25 a.m. Friday.

OWI arrests

• William Yoder, 28, 7770 W. 50 North, LaGrange, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated during a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Lincolnway East, Goshen, at 7:41 p.m. Thursday. He was incarcerated at the Elkhart County jail.
