Body found in pond in Noble County

A body was found Sunday in a private pond at 0544 S. 700 East, Avilla, in Noble County.

Indiana Department of Conservation officers reported the body was found by the landowner, who saw it floating about 10 yards from shore.

Conservation officers said an investigation has begun.

Traffic arrests

• Keith Straight, 57, 621 S. Seventh St., Apt. 3, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 5:28 p.m. Friday on a charge of operating a vehicle while his license was suspended.

Also, police arrested Erik Rodarte, 27, 619 S. 10th St., Goshen, on a charge of operating a vehicle while being a habitual traffic offender.

Police said the men were involved in a collision at South Eighth Street and Jefferson Street before their arrests. Both men were booked into the Elkhart County Jail.

• Goshen police arrested Martha Diaz-Medina, 32, 25748 Kiser Court, Elkhart at 7:59 p.m. Friday on a charge of operating a vehicle without ever having obtained a license. The arrest occurred near the intersection of Madison and Eighth streets.

Police released the driver on a promise to appear in court.

• Erzili Guerra-Acosta, 21, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of operating a vehicle without ever having obtained a license. The arrest occurred Friday at 7:41 p.m. at the intersection of Indiana and Plymouth avenues.

• Michael Hyman, 25, 934 Prairie St., Elkhart, was arrested by Goshen police at 8:22 p.m. Friday at Pike and Second streets, on a charge of having altered interim license plates displayed on his vehicle.

He was released on a promise to appear in court.

• Antonio Salazar-Salgado, 34, 202 Brookside Manor, Goshen, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while never having obtained a license. Goshen police made the arrest Saturday at 5:05 p.m. on Elkhart Road. Salazar-Salgado was released on a promise to appear in court.

• Eder Paez, 18, 1201 S. 15th St., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 6:49 p.m. Saturday on a charge of driving without ever having obtained a license. The arrest occurred at 10th and Madison streets. Paez was booked at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Johnnie Leal, 35, 175 Broadmore Estates, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police Saturday at 8:04 p.m. on a charge of driving while being a habitual traffic offender. He was arrested in the 1900 block of South Main Street and was booked into the Elkhart County Jail.


Shanda Oliver, Goshen, reported to Goshen police that her vehicle was damaged by someone while it was parked at the Ashton Pines Apartment Complex Saturday.


• An employee of Bowers Party Shop, 1917 Elkhart Road, reported a man entered the store and stole a bottle of alcohol by running out the back door without paying for it. The theft occurred Saturday at 8:20 p.m.

    A package with a battery pack and a blinking red light found on the desk of an employee at MSC, 28551 Laura Court, Elkhart, caused police and firefighters to evacuate the area this morning.
    The package turned out to be a GPS tracking device and not a bomb.
