Five nabbed for armed robbery

Five Elkhart men were arrested after an armed robbery that took place in Goshen early Monday morning.

Goshen police were called a home along April Lane in the Twin Pines Mobile Home Park regarding an armed robbery and burglary. The occupants of the home told police a handgun had been brandished during the robbery. None of the home occupants were injured during the incident, according to police.

The robbers fled prior to police being called for help.

Police said the subsequent investigation lead to the arrest of five people on charges of armed robbery and burglary. Arrested were:

• Armando Gonzalez, 18, 121 W. Indiana Ave., Elkhart

• Matthew R. Allen, 19, 10 Malcolm Drive, Apt. C, Elkhart

• Antoine A. McDuffie, 21, 26275 Leland Road, Elkhart

• Davon N. Crenshaw, 19, 719 E. Lusher Ave., Elkhart

• Montrail D. Williams, 20, 1606 Frances Ave., Elkhart

All five were incarcerated in the Elkhart County jail.

Teen’s death ruled homicide

An Elkhart teen-ager’s death has been ruled a homicide. Elkhart County Coroner John White said Monday said the cause of death for Tiana E. Alter, 17, was multiple sharp-force injuries. An autopsy had been performed earlier that day.

According to Elkhart County police, officers responded to a 911 call at the home at 29482 C.R. 1, Granger, at 11:18 p.m. Saturday.

At the residence, police found Alter dead in a bedroom.

According to police, officers at the scene arrested a “person of interest” on unrelated charges.

Elkhart County police Capt. James Bradberry said detectives are making progress on the case, and plan to soon forward the results of the investigation to the county prosecutor’s office for review.
