Two arrested after police respond to noise complaint

Goshen police responded to 311 S. 10th St. Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m. in reference to a noise complaint. Police said they found Thomas Bennett, 23 and Steve Friend, 24, both of Goshen, to be non-compliant to officer’s requests to go inside.

According to police the men made threatening remarks to the officers, who then placed the men under arrest. Bennett was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct and battery on a police officer by bodily waste after police allege he spat on officers. Friend was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct and intimidation of a police officer.

Crash reports

• Maria Zamarripa, Ligonier, told Goshen police her black Chevrolet HHR was hit by an unknown vehicle while it was parked at Walmart at 2304 Lincolnway East Saturday while she was inside shopping.

Theft/burglary reports

• A staffer at Sam’s Club, located at 4024 Elkhart Road, told Goshen police Saturday electronic merchandise located inside the store was stolen sometime overnight.

• An employee at the gas station located at 501 E. Madison St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone pumped $55.83 worth of gas into their vehicle and left without paying.

• Sharon Hensley told Goshen police that $200 and a book of stamps was stolen from her purse sometime Friday while she was at Courtyard of Goshen.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Christina North told Goshen police someone egged her house, located at 408 Glenwood Drive, Goshen, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Traffic arrests

• Walter Avilez, 34, 65723 Woodbury Drive, Goshen was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and being a habitual traffic violator following a traffic stop in the 700 block of Kercher Road Sunday around 3:17 a.m.

• Sergio Alvarez, 37, 197 Roxbury Park, Goshen, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving while his license was suspended following a traffic stop Sunday around 12:26 a.m. in the 100 block of N. Fifth Street. He was transported to the Elkhart County jail.

Alcohol/drug arrests

• Felipe Vargas, 42, Goshen, was arrested near the intersection of North Eighth Street and Cross Street Saturday around 6:29 p.m. on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school and driving while his license was suspended. Police said Vargas was transported to the Elkhart County jail.
