Young man shot in Elkhart

 Elkhart police are investigating the shooting of a young man near the intersection of Chapman and Chester streets at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to an Elkhart police report, officers were dispatched to the Chapman and Chester intersection when someone reported hearing gunshots. Police then received a call that a gunshot victim was at his home at 135 Chapman, about a block from Chester Street.

The victim, Mario Alberto Guerrero Ladesma, 23, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital and underwent surgery for his injury.

Elkhart detectives are investigating.

Shopper’s purse taken

A woman reported her purse was stolen while she was grocery shopping in Goshen Tuesday.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Luella Zimmerman, Elkhart, reported her purse was stolen at 2:45 p.m. while shopping at Kroger, 209 N. Chicago Ave., Goshen.

The incident is under investigation.

Car strikes buggy

An Elkhart driver reported a car-buggy accident near Nappanee Wednesday afternoon.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Eleanor Artley, 62, Elkhart, reported hitting a horse-drawn buggy at C.R. 11 near C.R. 48 at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. The operator of the buggy left the scene.

The crash is under investigation.

Rape attempt reported

Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department received a report early Friday of an attempted rape.

Sheriff’s officers reported that a 37-year-old woman called at 12:56 a.m. Friday to report that a man had tried to rape her at his home in Middlebury. The incident is under investigation.

Identity stolen

A case of identity theft was reported to Goshen police this week.

Goshen police said Manuel Marin reported that someone used his person information to open an account with AT&T last November. The incident is under investigation.
