A Milford man is currently in police custody on multiple drug-related charges following the serving of a search warrant at his home Monday evening.
According to Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney Curtis Hill Jr., a search warrant was executed at 13367 N. 100 East, Milford, at 6 p.m. Monday as a result of a joint investigation with the Elkhart County Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Unit and the Drug Enforcement Administration following an approximately two month investigation into the possible distribution of cocaine at the residence.
During a search of the property, officers reportedly located 464.7 grams of cocaine, $23,950 in cash and several other items that were indicative of drug distribution. The homeowner, Jose Gonzales, 61, was arrested on charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and distribution of cocaine and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department detectives are warning citizens of yet another local telephone scam. Officers have recently received reports of local citizens being contacted by a representative from the “District Attorney’s Office in Indianapolis” via telephone.
The caller allegedly states that he has personal information about the victim and then proceeds to inform the victim that there is a large amount of money that they currently owe. They are also advised that they need to pay a portion of it immediately or risk being arrested within a short time period if they do not comply.
K.C.S.D. Detectives urge citizens to be very protective of their personal information and should note that the callers on this scam have been noted as using the area code 786 on caller I.D. information. If contacted, officers are advising the public to simply advise the caller that you are not interested and that you will be contacting your local law enforcement agency, and then proceed to disconnect the phone caller. Currently, detectives are unaware of any local citizens who have sent funds to the alleged scam artist.
