Nappanee woman hurt after car hits ice patch

Police responded to several crash reports in the area:

• A Nappanee woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:45 p.m. Friday near Wakarusa. According to Elkhart County police, Kandy White, 44, Nappanee, was driving her vehicle east on Ind. 119, just east of Ind. 19, when her vehicle lost traction on a patch of ice, causing it to exit the roadway to the south where it collided with a street sign and then a large rock. White was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment of back pain as a result of the crash. She was issued a warning for conditions requiring driving at a reduced speed.

• A Goshen woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 7:17 p.m. Friday near Goshen. According to Elkhart County police, Kellie Aleman, 45, Goshen, was driving her vehicle north on C.R. 29, just south of C.R. 146, when her vehicle lost traction on a patch of ice, causing the vehicle to exit the roadway to the east and strike a phone box and small tree before coming to a stop in a nearby ditch. Aleman was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment of hip, knee and head pain. She was cited for conditions requiring driving at a reduced speed.

Theft/burglary reports

• Yareily Huertas-Delgado, 32, 1142 Midtown Ct., Elkhart, was arrested by Goshen police at 1:27 p.m. Friday at Walmart, 4024 Elkhart Road, Goshen, on a charge of theft. She was released on a memorandum to appear in court.

• Crystal Bryant, 108 S. 29th St., Goshen, told Goshen police she noticed someone had fraudulently opened a Comcast internet account in her name at 4:19 p.m. Friday.

• Haley Canchola, 21, 855 E. Mishawaka Road, Elkhart, was arrested by Goshen police at 7:10 p.m. Friday at Walmart, 4024 Elkhart Road, Goshen, on a charge of theft. She was released on a memorandum to appear in court.

  • Suspicious blinking package with battery pack causes police to evacuate business area

    A package with a battery pack and a blinking red light found on the desk of an employee at MSC, 28551 Laura Court, Elkhart, caused police and firefighters to evacuate the area this morning.
    The package turned out to be a GPS tracking device and not a bomb.
