Man detained after incident on Prairie View Elementary lawn

A male was apprehended by Goshen police on the lawn of Prairie View Elementary School after pacing in a field in the 1700 block of Regent Street. Two women phoned the Public Safety Communications Center about a male who had walked into a business and to a residence in the 800 and 900 blocks of E. Kercher Road in Goshen at 12:51 p.m. Thursday. The women reported a male appeared to be in duress and needed help. The police approached the male, who became belligerent and failed to stop when ordered by police. Paramedics transported the male to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment. No one was injured and the male was left at the hospital for medical evaluation.

Meth making injures one

Goshen police responded to a call at 725 Steury Ave. at 9:30 a.m. Thursday for a male who had been burned while manufacturing methamphetamine. According to police, the incident occurred several days ago outside Goshen. Indiana State police processed a vehicle at the scene and numerous items associated with making meth were found inside. Department of Child Services was contacted regarding two juveniles who had been inside the vehicle. One adult male, one juvenile male and one juvenile female were taken for medical treatment.

Milford woman guilty

Hayle Doty, 24, Milford, pled guilty to the felony offense of conspiracy to distribute marijuana. She was sentenced by District Judge Jon DeGuilio to 30 months imprisonment and four years of supervised release in Federal Court of South Bend.

Automobile crashes

Several people were hurt in recent automobile crashes:

• A Goshen police officer was hurt in a collision between two police vehicles Sunday.

The crash occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Ind. 15 at C.R. 40. Police said Mark D. Clere, 25, and Joshua Farmer, 28, were driving south on Ind. 15 in Chevrolet Impalas on an emergency run.

According to police, Clere passed a truck pulling a that had pulled over on the right side of the road. As he was passing, Clere momentarily looked to the right to see if the truck driver was going to pull back onto the road.

When Clere looked ahead, he saw that Farmer was braking to make a left turn onto C.R. 40. Clere’s vehicle struck the back of Farmer’s squad vehicle.

Clere suffered head pain as a result of the crash.

• Two adults and a child were injured in a single-car crash at C.R. 3, north of U.S. 6 near Nappanee. The crash occurred at 4:51 p.m. Thursday according to Elkhart County police. Elliott Correll, 52, Nappanee, lost control of his 1985 Toyota Tacoma and hit a tree after driving through standing water on C.R. 3. Correll suffered a broken nose and laceration to his right hand. A passenger, Bo Correll, 13, of Nappanee, complained of head pain and a laceration to his face. A 4-year-old child complained of head pain and a laceration to the face. Correll was issued three citations for no seat belt and nonrestraint of a child.

• A two-vehicle rear-end crash left two people injured Monday.

Goshen police said the crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at U.S. 33 and Indiana Avenue. A 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Daryl L. Crothers, 57, Goshen, collided with the rear of a 2004 Buick LeSabre Custom driven by Geraldine Randolph, 67, Goshen.

Randolph suffered back pain as a result of the crash. A passenger in the Buick, Sherrie A. Randolph, 46, Goshen, suffered head pain.
