One dead in Sunday night wreck

A Warsaw man is dead and a Warsaw woman in serious condition after a single-vehicle crash along Ind. 15 Sunday in Kosciusko County.

A 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Jason S. Watson, 37, Warsaw, collided with a tree crushing the entire front portion of Watson’s truck after police say the vehicle went left of center on Ind. 15, south of C.R. 900 North near Leesburg at 10:54 p.m., according to Kosciusko County police.

Watson was pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force trauma by Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson.

A front-seat passenger, Ellen Myers, 22, Warsaw, was extricated by emergency responders and airlifted by a Samaritan helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center with severe injuries to her leg, torso and arm. She was listed in serious condition Monday night.

The crash is still under investigation.

Phone leads to arrest

A North Webster man leaving his cell phone behind while breaking into a Syracuse residence leads to his arrest.

Kenneth J. Keene, 51, North Webster, was arrested by Kosciusko County police on a charge of burglary, theft and criminal mischief due to the damage performed during entry into the residence at the 9800 block of North Fourth of July Ave., Syracuse, Saturday. Police transported Keene to the Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment for his state of prescription medication intoxication after arrival at the Kosciusko County jail.

Police: Student had

knives at school


A Goshen High School student was arrested Monday for having knives at school, city police reported.

There was no malicious intent on the part of the student, according to the police report.

Police said Nevin A. Ennis, 18, was found to be in possession of a pocket knife and a small utility knife at school. Ennis was arrested and transported to the Goshen police station. He was later released on a promise to appear in court.

Leaving the scene of crash reports

• Jason Coryn of Bristol, told Elkhart County police someone driving a blue Chevy Astro van was traveling northbound on C.R. 23, near C.R. 102 and left the east side of the roadway, damaging his landscaping and a street sign owned by Elkhart County Highway at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Theft/burglary reports

• An employee of Variedades Las Estrellas, 230 S. Main St., Goshen, told Goshen police two males stole two hats at 1:37 p.m. Sunday.

• Tyson Williams, 412 E. Jefferson St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole his bicycle from the hallway outside his apartment around 4 p.m. Sunday.

• David Delgado-Pizana of Elkhart, told Goshen police his car had been taken from the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot at 2304 Lincolnway East between 7 and 10 p.m. Sunday. The keys were left in the car at the time of the theft and the vehicle was later found in Goshen according to police.

• An employee of Dollar General, 68533 Ind. 15, New Paris, told Elkhart County police three people entered the store at 8:59 a.m. April 10. One person out of a group stole a pack of underwear and a flag while the others bought a pack of diapers. One of the people returned at 10 a.m. to return the three items in exchange for other merchandise.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Zabrina Brown, 1305 W. Vistula Apt. 113, Bristol, told Elkhart County police someone purposely damaged her vehicle with another vehicle in the 50000 block of Ind. 13 in Middlebury at 7:10 p.m. Friday.

• An employee for Broadmore Estates on Ind. 15 in Goshen, told Elkhart County police someone shot a BB gun at his work truck causing the back window to break at 2:01 a.m. Saturday.

• Laura Ripley of Goshen, told Elkhart County police someone shot out the passenger side window of her vehicle at the intersection of Ind. 15 and Jefferson Lane in Goshen at 4:10 p.m. Saturday.

• Kim Baltazar, 19848 Crosswynd, Bristol, told Elkhart County police someone vandalized her house with toilet paper and baby oil at 12:39 a.m. Sunday.

Fraud reports

• Tamara Shanholt of Bristol, told Elkhart County police someone made seven unauthorized transactions on her bank account totaling $456.20 between 7:51 and 11:43 a.m. Friday.

Battery reports

• Jillian Maust of Goshen told Elkhart County police a male struck her in the face at the Benton River Preserve, 69000 U.S. 33 around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Drug/alcohol arrests

• Elkhart County Sheriff’s Teen Alcohol Reduction officers, Middlebury police and Bristol police stopped two white limousines for traffic violations in Middlebury near the intersection of U.S. Hwy 20 and Heritage Drive at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Fifteen adults were charged with illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage and released. The adults included Sharon Hochstetler, 18, Shipshewana; James Schrock, 19, Millersburg; Brenda Bontrager, 18, Millersburg; Nathan Lehman, 18, Shipshewana; Marlin Yoder, 18, Millersburg; Maynard Miller, 20, Shipshewana; Marion Hochstetler, 20, Ligonier; Lanae Hochstetler, 18, LaGrange; Harlan Borkholder, 18, Millersburg; Loranna Miller, 18, Ligonier; Matthew Hochstetler, 20, Ligonier; Harley Bontrager, 18, Millersburg; Wanda Helmuth, 18, Topeka; and Linda Lambright, 18, Goshen. According to police, 28 juveniles between the ages of 16 and 17, were charged with illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage and issued summons to juvenile court and released to their parents.
