Driver hurt in two-vheicl crash

One driver was hurt when two trucks collided at C.R.s 13 and 40 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Dustin Pruitt, 18, Elkhart, was driving a 1989 Ford Ranger truck west on C.R. 40. He reportedly drove into the intersection and his vehicle collided with a 2003 Dodge Ram truck driven by Brendan J. Zimmerman, 19, Claypool.

Pruitt was taken to Goshen General Hospital by Concord Township Fire Department medics for treatment of a head injury. He was ticketed for disregarding the stop sign.

Zimmerman was not hurt. But four people in the Dodge truck were cited for not wearing seat belts.

Damage was listed as extensive to both trucks.



Motorist arrested

Middlebury police arrested Lance Weirich, 24, 106 Powell Drive, Middlebury, after he was stopped at Lawrence and Wayne streets at 2:16 a.m. Thursday.

He was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and booked at the county jail. He was held initially without bond.



One arrested,

another injured

Elkhart police reported the arrest of one man and hospitalization of a second man after a traffic stop at 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police stopped a car at Lusher Street and Benham Avenue at 3 a.m. The driver, Sofio Espinoza, 42, Elkhart, allegedly refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated — refusal, and driving without every receiving a license.

A 33-year-old passenger reportedly got out of the car to talk to police, but fell to the pavement and hit his head and was knocked unconscious. He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital and transferred to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of a head injury.
