Passenger injured in two-vehicle crash



One person was hurt in a car-truck crash at C.R.s 3 and 46 at 6:20 p.m. Saturday.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Charles Schaut, 59, 1003 Laurel St., Mishawaka, was driving a 1994 Buick north on C.R. 3 and drove into the path of a westbound 2004 Ford F-250 truck driven by James L. Read, 59, 2265 15th Road, Bourbon.

Police said Schaut drove from the scene but was located by Bremen police.

Neither driver was hurt but a passenger in the truck, Erma Schaut, 97, had back pain.

Damage was estimated at more than $5,000.

DWI arrests



According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Laura Smith, 29, 29932 C.R. 18, Elkhart, was stopped while driving at C.R. 20 and C.R. 105 at 12:36 a.m. Sunday. She reportedly failed a blood-alcohol test and was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. She was booked at the county jail.
