Driver arrested, wife cited after crash
Two people were hurt and a driver arrested and his wife cited after a single-vehicle crash at 3 a.m. Sunday at C.R. 127, south of C.R. 48 in Jackson Township.
According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Kevin L. Hoover, 30, 69812 C.R. 29, New Paris, was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram truck south on C.R. 127 when he lost control of the truck and it went off the roadway and rolled over onto the passenger side.
Police reported Hoover’s wife, Sheena, 27, was at the scene and told police she was driving at the time of the crash. Police allege she was not the driver and arrived after the crash. She was cited on a charge of false informing and released.
Two passengers, including Kari Scaefer, 19, Goshen, were hurt in the crash, according to police. Scaefer was located at Goshen General Hospital and told police she could not recall the names of three other passengers in the vehicle, who police could not locate.
Hoover was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, false informing and driving too fast for conditions. He was booked at the county jail.
Damage was estimated at more than $10,000.
Boy accused of theft
A Goshen boy was arrested at Meijer, 4522 Elkhart Road, at 12:50 p.m. Sunday on a charge of theft.
According to a report by Goshen police, a 12-year-old boy was cited Sunday before he was released to parents. He will appear later in juvenile court.
Driver arrested
An Illinois driver stopped at a sobriety checkpoint Friday was jailed on an alcohol charge.
According to a report by Goshen police, James O. Berg, 54, Minooka, Ill., was stopped at Ind. 19 and C.R. 4 at midnight Friday. He allegedly refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test and was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was lodged at the county jail.
Driver cited
A Syracuse driver was cited for a driving offense after a traffic stop at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to a report by Goshen police, Gregory Watkins, 23, Syracuse, was cited for driving a vehicle after his license was suspended. He was stopped at Lincolnway East and Kercher Road Saturday.
Driver ticketed
A Goshen driver was ticketed for driving without a license at 1:20 a.m. Sunday in Goshen.
According to a report by Goshen police, Fredy Sanchez-Cortes, 21, 219 Roxbury Park, was stopped in the 300 block of South Third Street early Sunday. He was cited for driving a vehicle without ever receiving a valid license.
He was cited into Goshen City Court and will appear at a later date.
Three charged with theft
Three young women were accused of theft at Walmart, 2304 Lincolnway East, Friday afternoon.
According to a report by Goshen police, Ciara Barrick, 18, 302 E. Lincoln Ave., and two juvenile girls were arrested on theft charges at Walmart at 2:35 p.m. Friday. The juveniles were released to parents and will appear later in juvenile court.
Driver arrested Saturday
Goshen police report they arrested Vicki King, 60, 58616 C.R. 19, Goshen, at Main and Prospect streets at 1:12 a.m. Saturday.
She was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a blood-alcohol test. She was booked at the county jail.
