Driver hurt

in collision


A Nappanee man was injured in a three-vehicle collision near the intersection of C.R. 40 South and Ind. 15 Friday evening.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, a PT Cruiser driven by Chris Rivera Jr., 47, Nappanee, was heading west on C.R. 40 when Rivera reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. The car ran through a stop sign, colliding with a vehicle driven by Gary M. Stees, 73, Wolcottville, which was waiting to turn onto C.R. 40 from Ind. 15.

Police said that the impact from the collision caused Stees’ vehicle to collide with a trailer being hauled by Randal L. Vandermolen, 51, Millersburg.

Rivera complained of neck pain as a result of the crash and was transported to Goshen General Hospital for his injuries. He was also cited for disregarding a stop sign.



Syracuse man injured in ATV crash

A Syracuse man was injured in an all-terrein vehicle crash Saturday near North Webster.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:41 p.m., according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. A witness said the ATV was traveling westbound on C.R. 650 North just east of Kalorama Road at a high speed when the operator appeared to lose control. The ATV left the road and rolled over several times.

The operator, Brandon R. Richcreek, 21, Syracuse, suffered a severe laceration to the head and several lacerations to the hands and legs. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the DNR. He was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment.



Albion man

hurt in crash


An Albion man was injured during a two-vehicle collision north of Milford just before 5 a.m. Friday.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, a mini-bike driven by Jeremy A. Garber, 36, was northbound on C.R. 23 near C.R. 50 when he was reportedly struck by a passenger car driven by Jack Salazar, 52, Milford.

Police said Garber suffered injuries to his left hand, left leg, head and chest and was airlifted to Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne.
