HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) — Hammond police say a man fatally shot a 17-year-old who attempted to rob him outside a bar.
Police Chief Brian Miller says the 38-year-old man and his girlfriend were exiting their sport utility vehicle early Sunday when two men approached the couple and attempted to rob them.
Miller says the man took a gun from the SUV and shot 17-year-old Kenneth Denson of Chicago in the chest as an accomplice fled.
Denson was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people were arrested a short time later after their vehicle crashed.
Police say the man who shot Denson has cooperated with police and has turned over his handgun. He was not immediately identified.
Miller says charges could be filed Monday against the other two suspects.
