Armed pharmacist foils would-be heist

ATHENS, Ala. — A young man who entered a drug store handed the pharmacist a note saying he wanted drugs and issued a warning: “I have a gun.” The pharmacist had a word for him: He had a gun too.

Terrell Milby showed the young man he carried a concealed weapon  and told the suspect to lay flat on the floor. But as the pharmacist picked up the phone to call police,  22-year-old Noah Jay Davis,  jumped up and ran.

“He ran out the front door and his pants came about off on the way out,” Milby said. “He ran around to the back of the store. I could see him out the window.”

Within a few hours after police first arrived at the independent pharmacy to conduct an investigation, Davis was identified and later arrested at his home. Milby had picked him out of a group of photos supplied by police.

When asked if gun-toting pharmacists was the norm in Athens, Johnson said he could not speculate.

“You can never be too careful,” he said. “You never know who’s going to walk in.”
