Carnival worker accused of raping teen girl in Ala.

CULLMAN, Ala. — A carnival worker was arrested Saturday night after police said he raped a teenage girl who was attending the county fair in this town north of Birmingham.

Christopher Lee Hart, 28, was charged with rape and sodomy after deputies were able to locate him at the fair on Saturday night based upon the description given by the victim. The girl, between the ages of 14 and 16, had told her parents what happened, and they called the Cullman County Sheriff’s office, Chief Deputy Max Bartlett said.

Bartlett said the department has since reached out to other agencies in case there may be additional victims because of Hart’s frequent travels. He said right now, investigators don’t know of any other sexual abuse convictions.

"This a traumatic and unfortunate event for those involved," Bartlett said. "It is also a reminder to go to events in groups and never leave with a stranger."

Hart is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $60,000 cash bond.

Details for this story were reported by the Cullman (Ala.) Times.
