GOSHEN —  Eby Ford of Goshen broke ground Tuesday on a project that will see the fourth-generation family car business renovate 14,500-square-feet of space.

According to owner Todd Eby, the project includes adding a service drive to accommodate the company’s increasing service business and replacing the existing showroom, which was built in 1973.

“It’s going to be beautiful for one thing, we didn’t cut any corners,” Eby said of the project. “There is going to be a lot of tile and mahogany and maple furniture. We’re doing some new concepts with the sales people, adding some technology to make it easier for them and better for our customers and putting in some much-needed offices in for our fleet department, and things like that.”

Eby said the timing is right for the dealership as the economy is recovering from the recession.

“I think it’s a good time. I think the market is starting to come back. I think sales have been strong,” he said. “And it needed to be done. We went through the recession and held off on a lot of things and I thought the timing was just right.”

According to Eby, Ford Motor Co. wants dealerships to become more uniform and the company provided help in making the plans for the new building. He also said that without Ford’s strong product line-up, none of these changes would be happening.

“The product line-up is the strongest that I’ve ever seen it and Lincoln is coming on now, so I think it’s going to be good,” he said.

According to Eby, company records indicate that the existing 40-year-old showroom had 74,351 cars sold out of it.

“I think it’s important to thank our customers who made this possible, the 74,000 of them, because without them we wouldn’t be doing any of this and it makes me proud that we have a group of people that our customers can trust and they just keep coming back so that we’re able to do these things,” he said.

The project is scheduled to be finished in March of next year, according to Eby.

Eby Ford is located at 2714 Elkhart Road.
