---- — GOSHEN — The eyes have it.

And “it” is a new boutique in downtown Goshen dealing with sunglasses. The business is Shades by Wellington and Weddell.

“We are specializing in eye protection as well as style and trends,” manager Adrienne Nesbitt said. “Shades will carry a wide variety of brands, prices and sizes, including children’s sunglasses.”

The boutique evolved because of limited space at the office of Wellington and Weddell Eye Care, 116 W. Washington St., Nesbitt said. The owners of the new business are Dr. Jim Wellington and Karen Wellington along with their business partner, Dr. Brett Weddell.

“Karen had the idea to (sell) sunglasses, but there wasn’t enough room at their shop,” Nesbitt said. “From the idea to open until our grand opening (held during First Fridays last week), it was just about three weeks. ...We wanted to catch the Christmas season before people were taking their holiday vacations and such.”

As customers walk into the shop, their attention is drawn to the faux fireplace on a wall with a row of small Christmas stockings hung above it. Each stocking displays a pair of sunglasses.

“We want people to know that sunglasses make great stocking stuffers,” Nesbitt said. “We have gift certificates for people who want to give them as a gift but don’t know what type or style the recipient would choose to wear. We keep records for our customers to make sure they get the gift they are looking for if they come in and find something they really like.”

The selection of shades ranges from very affordable to high endurance sportswear to high fashion.

Since the boutique is partnering with Wellington and Weddell Eye Care, customers can be fitted with prescription sunglasses at the boutique as well.

“You can come in and find a pair you like here and order them for prescription sunglasses,” Nesbitt added. “We’re part of a family business, and more important to us is the fact that we want to provide a superior product and people get what they need. Sunglasses need to be put on in person and you can’t do that if you order them online. We want to make sure it fits.”

Nesbitt said she and the owners are excited to be part of downtown Goshen and gain a partnership with the other businesses.
