Wholesale shipments of recreational vehicles climbed in May by 5.1 percent, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association.
The RVIA said 35,511 units were shipped in May. The total was up 9.1 percent from this same month one year ago. This was the best May total in eight years and the best single monthly total since March of 2007.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, May’s total represented an annual rate of more than 354,000 units, according to Bill Baker, senior communications director with RVIA. Year to date, shipments have reached 159,256 units and were 10.6 percent greater than the same period last year. Motorhomes continue to grow at a more rapid pace, up 21.3 percent, while towable RVs remain the largest vehicle category at 139,553 units, according to Baker.
Travel trailer shipments in May were up 8.8 percent over May 2013. Fifth wheel shipments in May were up 7.2 percent over May 2013. Folding camping trailer shipments declined 1.1 percent from May to May and truck camper shipments declined from 362 units shipped in May 2013 to 272 units shipped this May. That represents a 24.9 percent decline.
