Skyline to restructure its RV group

GOSHEN — Skyline Corp. will restructure its recreational vehicle manufacturing group at its Elkhart and Bristol plants.

The company said in a news release, “In addition to the recent hiring of Don Emahiser as president of the RV Group, two new positions were created to consolidate operations of both facilities.”

Emahiser has served as president of both CrossRoads RV in Topeka and the former Carriage Inc. in Millersburg.

Michael Worden has been named director of operations for Skyline. He was formerly division manager of the Elkhart Skyline plant. Brad Whitehead has been hired as the director of sales and marketing. He has held several senior management positions in the past, according to the company.

“These are very talented people in key positions,” Emahiser said. “Previously, each division operated independent of each other. By combining leadership, we will become more cohesive in our products, strategy and operations.”

Skyline Corp. had about a 10 percent net sales revenue decrease for its RV operations in 2013, according to its annual report. That decrease was opposite of the RV industry in general in 2013, which experienced a 12.4 percent gain in wholesale shipments to dealers.

In that report the company announced it would take actions this year to turn the RV group around. The company outlined its strategy saying it included:

• Increasing efforts to increase sales of modular homes and park models through modular housing developers and campground owners.

• Improving the process of developing homes and recreational vehicles to meet consumer preferences.

• Maintaining the number of display models at housing facilities in order to provide dealers, communities and consumers with examples of newly designed products.

• Utilizing social media to improve product exposure to customers and to better connect dealers to potential customers.

• Selling non-strategic assets to generate cash and eliminate carrying costs.

• Working with current and potential vendors to decrease costs

• Analyzing staffing needs and making reductions when considered appropriate by management.
