RV-themed play area now graces center of Concord Mall

DUNLAP — The excited laughing and screams of children playing echoed around the middle of Concord Mall Wednesday afternoon as children ran, climbed and played on a newly opened play area at the mall.

According to marketing director Deborah Alwine, the new play area opened March 30 and is located where a fountain used to be.

“The fountain, as wonderful as it was, hadn’t worked for a while,” Alwine said. “So, we thought we would do this, as many malls are doing, putting in play areas.”

The play area was built by Colorado-based Playtime, LLC, which did a custom RV-themed play area for the mall using retro-looking designs to create a RV camping park area for young mall visitors to climb and slide on.

Alwine said the play area is made with naturally anti-bacterial materials, as well as durable, yet soft materials that make the area safe.

“We noticed a lot of young families coming in,” Alwine said.

The mall had a successful grand opening for the area last weekend, Alwine said and with some school’s on spring break this week, it’s been a chance for kids to really enjoy the new space.

“Having spring break this week, I think, has been great,” she said. “We had an awesome grand opening celebration, it was great and we had lots of kids here.”

According to Alwine, the play area is one of many improvements the mall has made in recent months.

“This is just one of the many improvements and revitalizations that we continue to do here to keep the property up to date,” she said.
