Ohio man critically injured on Lake Wawasee

SYRACUSE — An Ohio man was critically injured in a swimming mishap Saturday in Syracuse.

Indiana conservation officers said the incident involved Bradley Heyne, 26, of Coldwater, Ohio. Heyne was swimming with friends at the Lake Wawasee sandbar around 6 p.m. when he dove head first off a boat, officers said, striking his head on the shallow sandbar.

Other boaters quickly pulled the unresponsive Heyne to shore, and CPR was immediately initiated. Heyne was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition, conservation officers reported Sunday.

Investigating Conservation Officer Nathan Hooley reminded water enthusiasts to be aware of their surroundings and to wear a personal flotation device whenever possible.
