UPDATED: Funeral arrangements released for teen killed by train in Millersburg overnight

MILLERSBURG — A 17-year-old boy was struck and killed by a train at 12:34 a.m. today.

Killed was Matthew Simmons, a senior at Fairfield High School.

He was a wrestler and excelled at physics, according to his information on his obituary.

Town Marshal Keith Hathaway said, the boy was walking when he was struck by the train at the railroad tracks near Jefferson and Lincoln streets in Millersburg. There is no crossing there.

No one else was injured and no one else was involved, Hathaway said.

Viewing/funeral service

Friends may call 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Community Church prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service.

Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Matthew Simmons memorial fund, c/o Fairfield High School.
