Police: Man who phoned in bomb threat arrested

GOSHEN — Elkhart County police said they’ve arrested the man who phoned in a bomb threat to emergency dispatchers Tuesday.

Kenneth L. Childress, 25, Joyce Court, Elkhart was arrested on a Class D felony charge of false informing. Childress was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Thursday during questioning at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

According to a police report, at 10:01 a.m. Tuesday a male caller telephoned county dispatchers and reported a bomb being placed at one of the courthouses in Elkhart County or the prosecutor’s office. Police said the caller reported the bomb was in one of the locations and officers had to figure it out.

“Though the investigation revealed no actual threat to the courthouses or the prosecutor’s office, the Sheriff’s Department takes a strong stance in holding those accountable for making false threats that disrupt the community and its resources,” Elkhart County police Capt. James Bradberry said in a prepared statement Thursday afternoon.
