Two hurt when vehicle collides with Goshen dental office

GOSHEN — Two people were hurt when a vehicle crashed into Goshen Family Dentistry, 1625 Sunnyfield Drive, around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Goshen police said Gary M. Hurst, 34, 19935 Meadowridge Drive, Goshen, was driving south in the 1600 block of Indiana Avenue. His automobile left the road, went across several lawns and struck the dentistry office. According to police, the vehicle rolled onto its roof at least once after colliding with the building, before coming to rest on its tires.

Dentists Cheryl Carlton Deal and Mark Deal, both 41, Goshen, were inside the building at the time of the crash. Cheryl Carlton Deal suffered a contusion to her head and was transported to a hospital. Mark Deal suffered several small lacerations to his forehead and hands.

Hurst was arrested on a felony charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, and also driving while his driving privileges were suspended. He was incarcerated in the Elkhart County jail.

Hurst told police officers he was talking on his cell phone and was distracted when he drove off the road.
