GOSHEN — Monday’s Board of Works and Safety meeting was all about the bids.
During their meeting Monday, BOW members accepted bids for three upcoming projects and awarded a bid contract to a fourth.
First to be accepted were bids for the upcoming 2013 Asphalt Paving Program.
Submitting bids for the project were: Niblock Excavating with a base bid of $167,590 and an alternate bid of $46,866; Rieth-Riley with a base bid of $160,127 and an alternate bid of $42,858; Walsh & Kelly with a base bid of $138,835 and an alternate bid of $47,646; and Phend & Brown with a base bid of $149,227 and an alternate bid of $48,810.
Following their acceptance, the bids were referred to the Goshen Engineering Department for a recommendation.
Next on the list of incoming bids was the upcoming Martin Avenue Extension project.
Submitting bids for the project were: Rieth-Riley with a base bid of $91,437 and an alternate bid of $68,787; and Niblock Excavating with a base bid of $81,199 and an alternate bid of $70,859.
Following acceptance, a motion was passed to refer the two bids to the Engineering Department for a recommendation.
The final project up for bids Monday was the upcoming 1215 Hickory Street demolition project.
Submitting bids for the project were: J Shoffner General Contractors of La Porte with a bid of $13,800; Jerry Reed Excavating of Mishawaka with a bid of $5,995; Ritschard Brothers Inc. of South Bend with a bid of $21,700; and Beer & Slabaugh with a bid of $13,450.
A motion to refer the bids to the city legal department for a recommendation was approved following acceptance of the bids.
Switching from bid acceptance to contract award, the BOW awarded the contract for the upcoming Jefferson Street Reconstruction project to HRP Construction of South Bend for the low bid of $476,700.
The BOW originally accepted bids for the project during its July 15 meeting, at which time the bids were referred to the Engineering Department for review.
Also submitting bids for the project were: Beer & Slabaugh with a bid of $516,484; Selge Construction with a bid of $539,514; Rieth-Riley with a bid of $546,449; Niblock Excavating with a bid of $557,523; and Phend & Brown with a bid of $609,687.
In other business, the board:
• Approved a request for renewal of a maintenance agreement with OJS Building Services Inc. to provide testing, inspection and preventive maintenance on the Goshen Police Department building’s environmental mechanical system from Sept. 1, 2013 to Aug. 31, 2014.
• Approved post-construction plan amendments for the Forest River Lot 11 and Dave Carter & Associates Inc. Lot 4 and 5 stormwater projects. The two projects were initially approved at the board’s July 1 meeting in order to solve existing drainage problems along Century Drive on Goshen’s south side.
• Received notification that the July brush pick-up program will be conducted next week. Residents are directed to have their brush to the curb by 7 a.m. Monday. Per the usual program guidelines, brush should be located next to the street, not in an alley, should be trash-free and located away from any hydrants, utility poles, etc. Anyone with questions should contact the Goshen Street Department at 534-9711 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
