Fair crowd sets record

THE GOSHEN NEWS

— GOSHEN — If you went to the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Wednesday, you had company to the tune of 46,718 other people.

Mary Nisly, director of ticket taking, said attendance was a record for a fair week Wednesday since 2009. The crowds that showed up for Kids Day activities and the evening Hunter Hayes concert were major factors boosting turnout, Nisly indicated.

Food drive

Nisly also said a food drive is underway and continues through the end of the fair.

Donation stations are set up at Gate G (main east entrance), Gate B (main west entrance) and at the Main Gate located near the handicapped-accessible parking lot. Nisly said fairgoers can donate canned and non-perishable food items, or make check or money donations.

Fair officials are partnering with the Food Bank of Elkhart County — a program of Church Community Services — in partnership with the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and Feeding America. The fair food drive will benefit Elkhart County food pantries, Nisly said.
