Goshen School Board approves 1.2 percent pay increases for administrators

GOSHEN — Goshen School Board members Monday approved the salaries of administrators for the 2013-14 school year.
The board approved increasing Superintendent Diane Woodworth’s salary by 1.2 percent, for a salary of $120,300, from July 1 through June 30, 2014.
The superintendent’s annual benefits and additional forms of compensation will also include: vehicle expense allowance, $12,000; family health insurance premium contributions, $7,971; cell phone allowance, $720; and contribution to the superintendent’s accounts in the school corporation’s section 403 (b) retirement plan, 7 percent of base salary; the school corporation’s VEBA medical expense plan, 1 percent of base salary; and the school corporation’s section 401 (a) retirement plan,1 percent of base salary.
Other benefits paid by the school corporation for the superintendent includes annual premiums for term life insurance, group term disability insurance and professional liability insurance, $15,100.
The school corporation will pay or reimburse the superintendent for business and professional expenses, including dues for membership in professional organizations, the travel expenses of attending conferences and meetings, as well as home and away Internet access charges.
Woodworth recommended the board approve other administrators and their salaries based on a 1.2 percent increase overall. These included assistant superintendents Bob Evans and Marceil Royer and Tamra Ummel, $100,659; GHS Principal Barry Younghans, $103,114; GMS Principal Lori Shreiner, $93,294; and elementary principals Kim Branham, Roy Hufford, Lynne Peters and Tracey Noe, $82,246, Betts McFarren, $85,928, Kim Gallagher, $83,090, and Alan Metcalfe, $87,156.
GHS assistant principals include Ann Eaton, Tony Harl, Noah Tonk, and Kelly Whitaker, $81,018, and Larry Kissinger, $81,632; GMS assistant principals Jan Baker, $83,473, Jeromy Sheets, $78,563, Mickey Wagner, $76,108, and John Hunziker, $73,653; and Merit principal, $84,701.
The coordinators and directors are ELL Director Tom Good, $79,791; Director of Title/Assessment Mary Kay Longacre, $81,018; and Director of Finance Jerry Hawkins, $81,018.
Administrators in special education include Director Mary Beth Hamilton, $101,887; Assistant Director Beverly Krabill, $84,701; and coordinators, Lee Ann Merkert and Cherie Borg, $80,405, Theresa Eldridge, $79,791, Shanda Brenneman, $77,949 and Angela Brown, $78,563.
Nursing Services Supervisor Susan Stiffney will receive $55,240.
Woodworth added another category for the board’s approval.
“I like to think of this as a new category. There are administrators who work year round and supervise programs and or people,” Woodworth said, “but they are not certified.”
These administrators are Energy Education Specialist Judy Miller, $52,171 and Technology Director David Snyder, $73,653.
“All together the total is $3,012,637 from last year’s total, an 1.8 percent increase overall, which includes the 1.2 percent increase on the base,” Woodworth said, “as well as ‘increment’ increases ... an administrator moves up in the index range.”
