Elkhart teen shot to death, another held on murder charge


ELKHART — An Elkhart teenager was shot to death as he walked down the street Saturday night.

Elkhart police reported Braxton Barhams, 16, 250 W. Garfield Ave., Elkhart, was shot to death at 6:45 p.m. The shooting occurred at the intersection of Benham and Garfield avenues. Police said they were called to 250 W. Garfield Ave., where they found Barhams with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not named a suspect. According to booking information from the Elkhart County Jail, Jesus Macedo-Perez, 17, of 1212 Midtown Court, Elkhart was arrested by Elkhart police at 5:45 a.m. Sunday. He is being held without bond on a charge of murder. It could not be confirmed that Macedo-Perez’s charge is related to the death of Barhams.
