Dude drops in at the Dew Drop Inn

GOSHEN — It’s not everyday a man falls through the sidewalk, but that’s what happened in front of the Dew Drop Inn on Saturday afternoon.

An unidentified man stepped outside of the bar and stood on the sidewalk, according to Fire Chief Dan Sink. The sidewalk then gave out beneath the man, who fell 8 to 10 feet into the basement of the establishment.

“The sidewalk just gave way,” Sink said. “The sidewalk looks fractured underneath — we’re going to have the Building Department come down and check the integrity of the front wall (of the Dew Drop Inn).”

Other patrons in the Dew Drop at the time were taken out of the bar through a back door. The Street Department roped off the sidewalk, and Main Street was shut down for around 15 minutes.

Though the full account of his injuries are unknown, the man was able to walk out of the bar and sit down on a stretcher provided by emergency responders. He was taken away by ambulance.
