Graduation season gets underway tonight

GOSHEN — The time has come for local high school seniors to begin turning their tassels.

After 13 years of schooling in many cases, the Class of 2013 is ready to graduate.

Seniors at Westview High School will be the first to graduate tonight during a Baccalaureate service at 7 in the Wilson Auditorium. Westview's regular commencement will be at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

Goshen seniors will graduate June 9. It will be the first GHS commencement is which tickets will be required for spectators. The plan is to issue each graduating senior six tickets as a way to try and curb growing attendance issues at the ceremony. Those seniors can then hand the tickets out to whom they choose.

Principal Barry Younghans said the doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and people will enter the gym through doors M and B with their tickets in hand and door I will be for handicapped individuals only.

“All other doors will be locked. There will be additional parking across the street,” Younghans said. “The police presence will be greater because it’s a change and people are just used to walking in. This is our biggest graduating class ever (405 students).”
