Children airlifted from crash near Benton

BENTON — Two young Cromwell children and a Ligonier man were injured when the car they were in struck a tree at 2:46 p.m. Saturday along U.S. 33, north of C.R. 33 near Benton.

Accoridng to Elkhart County Ptl. Casey Polacheck, Joshua Reynolds, 24, Ligonier, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox north on U.S. 33, north of C.R. 33, when he drove left of center and off the west side of the road. Once the Equinox left the road, it went airborne and struck a tree before coming to rest in a yard, the officer said.

Inside the car, along with Reynolds, were two children, Trevin Reynolds, 1, and Ethan Geller, 2, both of Cromwell.

The older Reynolds suffered left shoulder pain and was taken to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment.

The two children suffered head injuries and were airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Police are still investigating the crash.

The driver was cited for driving left of center.
