New Paris farm family given 'Hoosier Homestead Award'

NEW PARIS — The Dean and Eleanor Morehouse family was one of 50 Hoosier families recently given the Hoosier Homestead Award by Indiana agriculture officials.

To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for more than 100 consecutive years and consist of 20 acres or more or produce at least $1,000 worth of agricultural products per year. The award was created to recognize the contributions these family farms have made to the economic, cultural and social advancements of Indiana. “These families epitomize the reason we celebrate Indiana’s Agriculture Appreciation Month,” said Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann. “We honor their commitment to carry on the farming tradition, within their families on the same land, generations after they were first founded.”

The Morehouse farm is located in New Paris, and has been owned by the family since 1866.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
