Nappanee pedestrian killed by train


NAPPANEE — A Nappanee man is dead after being stuck by a train around 10:36 p.m. Wednesday

According to Nappanee police, Patrick O. Circle, no age given, died from injuries sustained after being struck by an eastbound locomotive near the intersection of Madison Street in Nappanee. CSX Railroad officials notified Nappanee police that their train had struck a pedestrian at a little after 10:30 p.m.

Patrol units were dispatched to the scene. Police said they located Circle’s body at 10:48 p.m. approximately 300 yards east of Madison Street.

An investigation of the incident continues with CSX officials and the Elkhart County Coroner’s office. Police said they do not expect foul play and that Circle died of blunt force trauma. Toxicology reports are pending through the coroner’s office.
