GOSHEN — Tippy the clown sits outside Young MacDonald’s Farm near the Park Stage awaiting showtime.
With her green hair and blue dress with white polka-dots and white face make-up, she looks out of place among the typical fair crowd.
Underneath the make-up though is Sidney Hostetler, 11, Middlebury, a first-year member of the 4-H Clown Club.
For her, joining the clown club was an easy choice.
“I liked putting make up on, like I used my mom’s make up to do this and I’m kind of funny,” she said, pausing before adding, “I think.”
Hostetler says she enjoys being a part of the club and likes performing. The club, she says, has taught her confidence, as well as performing skills.
“(I’ve learned) how to keep a good character and having confidence up on stage and always being positive when you’re in costume and out of costume,” she said.
Hostetler was excited to perform for the Kids Day audience Wednesday but hoped it would go better than her last performance.
“Last time my wig fell off,” she said. “It was kind of an embarressing moment for Tippy.”
She said her favorite things about the club are meeting the other clowns and seeing how kids react to the clowns.
“Sometimes kids are scared and sometimes kids are confused because they don’t know what you are,” she said.
Hostetler said she really likes making other people smile and laugh when she performs as Tippy.
“Like, a lot.” she said.
