Good Friday, Easter services offered

GOSHEN — A Good Friday service and two local Easter services have been scheduled.

First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, 215 E. Lincoln Ave., will host a community Good Friday service at 12:10 p.m. this Friday. The Rev. Anna Parkinson of First Presbyterian will be preaching.

City Church of the Brethren

Easter morning at Goshen City Church of the Brethren will include a 7:30 a.m. sunrise worship service, an 8 a.m. breakfast, 9:30 worship and 11 a.m. Easter egg hunt for children. The 9:30 Worship will feature a choir presenting a musical message of  “Upon this Rock; The Passion, the Question, the Call by Pepper Choplin.” Soloists will be Rex Miller, Cinda Haney, David Holderman, Madalyn Metzger, Stephanie Green and Steve Bowers. Percussionists will be Steve Barton and Marius Norton.  Candy Henkler and Peggy Miller. Dennis McOwen will be the narrator. Steve Bowers is the music director.

St. John of the Cross

The congregation at St. John of the Cross in Bristol prepared for Easter with a Wednesday evening soup supper, book study and Compline, which is a service for the end of the day.

There will be a Maundy Thursday (which commemorates Jesus’ last supper with his Apostles) service at 7 tonight and following the service the “watch of prayer” will take place.

Good Friday, to commemorate the crucifixion of Christ, Stations of the Cross will be prayed from the perspective of Mary, mother of Jesus.

On Easter Sunday at 9:30 a.m. the church will celebrate the Easter Eucharist to honor the risen Lord. After the service there will be an egg hunt for the children. For more information, call 848-7114.
