Yellow Cab, Heart City Rider, Goshen Transit Service shut down operations

GOSHEN — Yellow Cab of Elkhart County has shut down its Heart City Rider and Goshen Transit Service cab services in Goshen and Elkhart.

The company stopped operating at 2 p.m. today, citing a lack of funding increase from the Michiana Area Council of Governments.

According to Yellow Cab, MACOG granted the company a temporary rate increase in April and was supposed to seek public comments on a permanent rate increase. The company said that process never occurred and the temporary rate increase ended in June, leaving the company without enough funds to pay for its insurance on its 15 vehicles.

“Michiana Area Council of Governments clearly has no intention of working with us to resolve the issue at hand; therefore, Michiana Area Council of Governments has given Yellow Cab of Elkhart County no other alternative but to stop servicing Heart City Rider and Goshen Transit Services program until such time as a resolution can be agreed upon by both parties,” the company said in a press release.
