Bristol fire deaths ruled accidental

BRISTOL — The deaths of Crissinda Kabay, 66, and her son Chad Russell, 42, in a house fire Dec. 16 have been ruled accidental.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement today that said while the investigation into the exact cause of the fire in the family’s mobile home is not known, it is believed accidental.

The fire was reported at 7:02 a.m. at 526 N. Arbutus. The Indiana Fire Marshal’s office was called in to assist in the investigation. According to the sheriff’s department, the fire started in the southeast corner of the home’s livingroom and may have been caused by improperly discarded smoking

material. Medical Oxygen tanks were located in the home,

however, it is unknown if they contributed to

the fire.
