GOSHEN — Goshen Water Utility officials have issued a system-wide freeze warning.
Due to the extreme winter weather and constant cold, Goshen's water utility customers have begun to experience frozen water services at residential and commercial properties.
The frost line has been determined to be 4.5-feet deep, water officials said. This is causing water lines to freeze and in some cases break.
The warning is in effect until customers' receive further notice.
It is recommended that all residential and commercial water utility customers leave their water run, at a single cold-water faucet, located inside their home or business. The water should be run in a small stream the size of pencil lead. Running water is less likely to freeze, officials said.
Although a warming trend is anticipated, the frost line will not fluctuate as quickly as the air temperature. Goshen water officials said they will monitor the frost line depth and notify utility customers when the freeze warning is canceled.
All residential and commercial customers who leave their water running as a preventative measure may contact the Utility Business Office at 574-533-9399 to receive a billing adjustment from the date the utility office is contacted until the final day of the freeze warning.
Those who have notified the office of their participating will have their water and sewer bills adjusted, relieving customers of the responsibility for the increased usage during the warning period, utility officials said.
Customers who experience loss of water service or a slower than normal water flow due to a frozen water line are asked to contact the water utility maintenance department at 574-534-5306.
