Benton house fire extinguished

GOSHEN — BENTON — A house fire in Benton Township is under control, firefighters at the scene report.

The fire at U.S. 33 and Franklin Street was called in around 9 a.m. Traffic on U.S. 33 was being rerouted around the fire scene for a period of time.

Benton Township Fire Chief Jason Dunlap said there were no injuries in the blaze, which was called in by a passerby.

“We just did a search (of the home),” Dunlap said at the scene. “Nobody was found at this time.”

Dunlap said firefighters were inside the home looking for hot spots.

“The fire is pretty well out,” he said.

In addition to Benton units, firefighters from Clinton Township, New Paris and Syracuse responded to the blaze.
