Walter crowned 2013 4-H fair queen

— GOSHEN — Sierra Walter was already busy at this year’s Elkhart County 4-H Fair. She’s showing 23 goats, beef steer, heifer and two horses.

And tonight she was crowned 4-H Fair Queen out of a field of 50 young women at the 4-H Fair Pageant.

The 10-year 4-H member entered the contest as Miss Elkhart County Extension Homemakers. The Fairfield High School graduate plans to attend Ivy Tech — Warsaw in the fall to study to be a paralegal.

She has been in Jacksonians 4-H Club as well as the Beef, Goat Club, Saddle and Swine clubs.

Her interests include helping children involved in 4-H and encouraging those children not in 4-H to join, plus dance, livestock judging and four-wheeler racing.

She is also an advocate for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and participates in Fairfield FFA and Go Green.

Her parents are Jim and Kandy Walter.

Taylor Poling was named the first runner-up Friday night.

More information about the 4-H Fair Queen Pageant will appear in Sunday’s edition.
