Nappanee city officials issue freeze warning for water customers

THE GOSHEN NEWS

NAPPANEE — Due to the extreme winter weather and constant cold, Nappanee water customers are experiencing frozen water services, city officials said.

"We have received reports that the frost line is approximately 4-feet deep in the ground, causing water services to freeze," Utilities Superintendent Gale Gerber stated in a press release.

Because of this, a freeze warning has been enacted.

It is recommended by city officials that all residents and businesses leave their water run, at a cold-water faucet located inside their home or business, until the utility notifies them to stop. The water should run in a small stream, the size of pencil lead. Running water is less likely to freeze.

If the weather warms above freezing, do not shut the water off, city officials caution.

All residents and businesses that have left their water run should contact the water utility to be put on an adjustment list. These water bills will be adjusted so residents and businesses will not have to pay for the water they have run.
