New Paris teenager seriously injured when mechanical failure causes boat crash

LAKE WAWASEE — A New Paris teenager was seriously injured in a boat crash at Lake Wawasee Sunday. The crash occurred at 5:40 p.m.

Indiana Conservation officers said Riley Wagner, 16, New Paris, was hospitalized with serious injuries after a 2005 Nautique operated by Marshall Dillon, 18, Goshen, accelerated out of control and hit the seawall near 11554 Venetian Drive sending it airborne onto land. Wagner was ejected from the boat approximately 50 feet and landed on the roadway on Venetian Drive.

Police said a broken linkage handle caused the mechanical failure. There was significant damage to the watercraft and property where the boat landed.
