Boil order issued in Middlebury

Local Middlebury officials issued a “Boil Water Order” notice for people who get their drinking water from the Town of Middlebury for Thursday.

The area of the Boil order is Wayne Street, west of the Das Dutchman Essenhaus, to 411 W. Wayne Street, which includes the subdivisions of Highland Hills and Twin Oaks.

Mark Salee, Middlebury Town Manager, said this precautionary action is necessary because the system lost pressure. The loss of pressure was due to a water break on Wayne Street in Middlebury. When a water distribution system loses pressure, contaminants can siphon back into the system.

Public health officials consider any system that has lost pressure contaminated until tests of the water prove otherwise. As soon as pressure is restored to those customers affected, water system officials will begin collecting water samples for testing. When pressure is restored, officials recommend that customers vigorously boil water for three to five minutes for water that is to be consumed. Users will be notified when tests show the water is safe to drink.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
