Police: Teen arrested after firing gun in Goshen

GOSHEN — A 16-year-old Goshen boy was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly firing a gun along Crescent Street Thursday night.

Around 7:30 p.m. Goshen police were called to a report of possible gunshots fired and a fight in the rear parking lot at 212 Crescent St. Police said the suspect is believed to have stolen a firearm from a relative and fired a round into the air as a threat toward a 15-year-old boy.

Police said that according to the victim and witnesses, the armed teen then pointed the weapon at the 15-year-old. The two exchanged words and then separated prior to police arrival.

The 16-year-old was arrested on charges of criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm, dangerous possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a permit and receiving stolen property. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Police said Elkhart County prosecutors are expected to file formal charges against the teen Tuesday.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
