GOSHEN — A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service of Northern Indiana for western Elkhart County, St. Joseph County, southeastern Berrien County, Mich., Cass County, Mich., and western St. Joseph County, Mich.
According to NWS officials, the warning is through 2:45 p.m. today.
At 1:51 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 7 miles northwest of Dowagiac, Mich., to 7 miles north of North Liberty to Walkerton and moving east at 35 mph.
Hazards include quarter size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.
The impact is possible hail damage to vehicles, wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.
LaGrange County is also expected to be affected, as is the Indiana Toll Road between the 100 and 99 mile markers.
Heavy rain tonight
The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana is calling for a 70 percent chance of heavy rain tonight in our area.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely before 2 a.m. Weather service officials said some of the storms could produce heavy rain, with new rainfall amounts of between 3/4 and 1 inch possible.
