WARSAW — A Warsaw man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle north of Warsaw, in Kosciusko County.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department,  deputies and emergency personnel responded to a 9-1-1 call of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle at 5:26 a.m. Wednesday near the location of 3340 N. C.R. 150 West.

Officers reported they found Michael C. Keener, 22,  lying in the roadway with severe injuries.  Keener was immediately transported to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, by Multi-Township E.M.S. in critical condition.

Kosciusko County crash investigation team members stated that initial investigations concluded that Keener had purportedly been walking southbound on C.R. 150 West when Darrell E. Young, 46, Warsaw, approached southbound driving his 2002 Jeep Liberty.  Young told police he did not see Keener until the very last minute due to the predominantly dark clothing he was wearing.  Young also said Keener appeared to be crossing the roadway, at which point; he swerved but still struck him. Young’s vehicle continued across the road and struck a utility pole on the eastside of the roadway before coming to rest. Young was not injured in the crash.

Officers stated that the crash is under investigation pending blood test results as mandated by state law.
