Goshen police release name of man killed by train

GOSHEN — Goshen police have released the name of a pedestrian killed by a train in the area of the tracks between First Street and River Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday.

The pedestrian was identified as Thomas D. Griffis, 39, 18254 U.S. 6, New Paris.

According to Goshen police, Griffis was struck in the area of First Street and River Avenue by a freight train traveling east at about 50 mph.

Police said alcohol was believed to be a factor.

The train was stopped for more than two and a half hours while emergency personnel conducted an investigation.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
