New store bulks up

GOSHEN — Just inside the entrance to The Old Bag Factory at Chicago and Indiana avenues is a new bulk foods and gifts store.

Joas and Janelle Lambright of Goshen have opened J&J Sales Bulk Foods and Gifts.

The young couple have wanted to start their own business for some time, according to Janelle. When they were at the Old Bag Factory earlier this year they noticed a space was available. They thought it was a good location to get a start.

“We always wanted to do something like this, and so far it has been great,”  Janelle said.

Bulk food items are displayed on a long case in the middle of the store where the packages are washed with sunlight coming through the large windows of the historic factory that has been converted to a shopping mall.

The store has been open about two weeks. Inside there are a variety of mixes for cakes, pancakes, muffins and other baked goods. There are also bags of noodles, spices, candy, popcorn, sugars and flours.

Greeting cards, natural soaps, lip balms and lotions are also on display. For the children there are toys. And for special occasions there is a selection of greeting cards.

The store’s phone number is 574-350-6646. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The store will be open later every second Friday of the month.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
